  • Who knows? Long, extended periods with inadequate sleep will certainly wear anyone down. But eventually, your brain and body will "take charge" and you will "crash" for as long as your system needs to rest and recoup. If you are talking about years of pushing your body this way, I would say, yes, it is definitely an aging factor.
  • I'm not sure if it truly does, but it sure feels like it! I've always had issues with insomnia and restless sleep.
  • You may look haggard but what it does is hasten your death. Researchers say just getting a few hours too little sleep each night does it too.
  • No, you age at the same, constant rate. However, SEVERE sleep deprivation can certainly kill you (you won't have aged any faster, you'll just die). A lot of research has indicated that constant lack of sleep will stress your heart a very unhealthy amount. Last I read, 5 days of sleep deprivation (which is anything less than 4 hours per day) will raise your risk of heart disease and increase your blood pressure. Get your sleep people : D It's recommended that you sleep 1 hour for every 2 hours you spend awake, slightly more than that if you are very active while awake (a professional athlete or something).
  • Stress to me does more than lack of sleep because it depends on what your doing when your not sleeping!
