    Not everyone's kidneys are the same size or shape. Size and shape are a consideration if a transplant has to be done. In a healthy individual the kidneys are the same size. Each kidney is about 5 inches (about 13 centimeters) long and about 3 inches (about 8 centimeters) wide.
