i think that it is the models we see everyday in magazines.

I think they worry about how other women perceive them. Women judge other women more harshly than men do.

The media plays a significant role in the obsession. If music artists depicted women with more shapely bodies in their videos, it would be viewed by many to be more acceptable in terms of desirability. Remember Sir Mix a Lot's song? His song normalized and even promoted women with a big booty. Some people are impressionable, and want someone who is popular to tell them what they should like... how to dress... and how to act.
