Espresso is rocket fuel. It is very strong unfiltered coffee, usually served in small portions. It's usually strong and bitter. An Espresso machine requires finely ground coffee beans and uses pressure to force boiling water through the coffee beans. Coffee is the mundane stuff you can get everywhere. Most coffee makers are automatic drip machines that use a courser ground coffee, and allow a gravity feed system to move the hot water through filtered coffee grounds and into a pot. If you are unfamiliar with what you want, You want an automatic drip coffee maker.

If you like regular coffee, cream and sugar then just buy a coffee machine. If you are a gourmet coffee drinker or you like your coffee to be very strong, then I would recommend an expresso machine.

Depends on what kind of coffee you like and want to make. If you want just simple coffee, then a coffee maker is what you want. If you want a special coffee, with foamed milk, extra rich, though not necessarily more caffeine (it isn't true that espresso has more as the water isn't in contact with the beans as long.) The Espresso machine will cost you A LOT more money. From a few $20s more to hundreds more, depending on how serious you ae about coffee:-) But if you just want really great coffee with little fuss, you cannot beat a French press like this one http://www.amazon.com/Bodum-Chambord-8-Cup-Coffee-Press/dp/B00005LM0S/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1200502774&sr=8-1 And this link goes to a little pot that makes an incredibly simple version of espresso without the expensive machine. No it isn't exactly espresso but it's close and very drinkable. http://www.amazon.com/Bialetti-Moka-Express-6-Cup/dp/B000CNY6UK/ref=sr_1_37?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1200502890&sr=1-37
