People always say that aging is nice, but when a person becomes old, he or she is ignored by family members like old furniture. Not really all the time. Personally, I intend to take care of my mom when she can no longer take care of herself.

This has not been my experience, but the people in my family are very spirited and youthful at any age. They would not stand for being ignored! :)

I find that when I cared for my parents and now when we care for my wife's parents it is the completing the circle. It fulfills you and comforts you. It is good for the caregiver and parent. But remember to share the responsiblity and act only when your parents can't.
-
That has not been my experience..but I have been blessed with exceptional family members and friends who treat me as peers and listen to what I say...I see no difference in treatment now, at 70...:)

My mother's 84-lives by herself and has been to 139 countries. The children and grandchildren (all of whom live in different towns from her and the youngest of whom is 22 years old) all get together with her, frequently at a resort or cruise, at least three times a year. I see her at least once a month.

As far as my Mum is concerned she is far from being a piece of furniture and is often the life of the party. I travelled around Europe with my Mum two years ago she wore me out with her energy for life and adventure.

Aging is beautiful ... i agree but that doesn't have to mean that you go unnoticed at social gatherings. There are still various ways in which you can look younger than your age. For instance facial exercises, anti-wrinkle creams, face lift etc. I found some really useful tips at http://stayingyoungnow.com/index.php... you can check it out!

You are correct except on one thing: there's nothing beautiful about aging, in fact, it's the most awful and denigrating thing that we as human beings have to endure
-
Not in my family. My mother is 91 and is the center of attention. She is sharp and her mind is alert. has a memory like an elephant. No ghosts in our family.
-
yeah mostly people ignore old people but there are exceptions like some of the other ABaggers have highlighted in their answers, i hope i will be an exception!
