The one time I had it, the solution was plenty of water (I'd been very sick and even though id been guzzling water & gatorade I couldn't keep up and needed an IV) and they prescribed something to me. Don't remember what it was.

It depends on what's causing it. The first step is to go see your doctor - she/he can diagnose the problem and recommend the appropriate treatment. It may be something as simple as an ear infection or "BPPV" (described below), or something rare and dangerous like a tumor (note the word "rare"). There is a diagnosis called "benign paroxysmal positional vertigo" or BPPV (often shortened by leaving out that ugly word "paroxysmal") which is a very common cause of vertigo, and often goes away by itself. It is very treatable if more persistant, either by a doctor who knows the techniques, or by a Physical Therapist (my profession) trained in balance disorders & treatment. Here is an absolutely great article on the problem: http://www.emedicinehealth.com/benign_positional_vertigo/article_em.htm Remember, the FIRST thing to do is go to the doctor if the symptoms are severe and/or last longer than a day or two. Take good care!
