Some of these questions are easy to find the answer to by searching on Google. Are people just too lazy to look themselves or is there another reason?

I am more charitable towards askers, because I only started using a computer two years ago, and had to learn how to do effective searches. It took a long time to get it right. Sometimes its because they don't even realize that all they have to do is type their question into their favorite search box and nearly always find the answer. Many askers would like a sort of personal touch to their answer, although asking the length of day for the moon doesn't seem to require a personal touch. I happen to enjoy looking things up, and I do it all day, every day, so I don't mind if they are just being lazy. It's a lot of fun for me, and hopefully, I'm helping them. Some of the questions are "set ups" to try add information into the Answerbag search database. Others are aimed at directing people to add clicks to the listing that will inevitably show up on a google search. There are many different reasons for people to use Answerbag, and aren't we glad they do?

i agree-most of the time i don't even toggle to google. an old fashioned dictionary and a world almanac (gasp-books) get me most of the answers faster and more authoratively. best i can tell it's just mental masturbation and "socialization"-although somepeople seem to take their rankings, and their ability to downgrade others, seriously.
