Whenever I book a flight with an airline, I never get the vegetarian meal I requested regardless of whether I booked with them directly or through a third party. What exactly do you have to do to get the meal you requested?

Call them in advance (24-48 hours) to confirm that your meal request has been received and will be honored. Works like a charm.

If you make enough fuss you would probably get your fare refunded. Just take some sandwiches in your hand luggage and you could probably travel free all over the world for a year.

well if you are booking through a travel agency then you should have this in your travellers profile. If you book through them again make sure that they confirm this. VGML is the code that most airlines use for a vegetarian/vegan meal. you could email or contact the airline directly with this request, and confirm it prior to check in. But the main thing is to make sure the travel agent knows it... and does something about it

I have not had this problem when I asked for veggie meals - but that was some years ago. The code VGML should be somewhere on the ticket, or ticket confirmation email. If it isn't you probably need to call them up for confirmation. My experience was that when I did get a veggie meal, it usually looked a lot nicer than the meat meals and the carnivores around were envying me.
