It can help with some areas of ping-pong. It can help you with the consistancy of your shots, how to maintain your power of your shots, how to aim your shots on the opposite side of the table. The only thing is, you shouldn't rely on your table when practicing. When you practice against a wall, most of the shots that come back to you are the same. You should practice with another person. In order to get good, you have to work out how to hit any type of shot that comes your way. A slicing hit, a short drop shot, a hard slam, a wall can't do all of that, so do both.
