  • You can find them in fields where birch trees grow and where horses go, and they look like this: They've got fine stalks, but the distinctive thing about them is the nipple on the top. They often grow in circles, hence the fairy ring, but not always. They're sometimes just "strewn"! The New Forest has a very good spot!! They grow among the flyagarics...I kid you not! Do wash them before you eat them, especially if you're not going to have them straight away, as they will have maggots in them - not very pleasant at all! Keep them in a paper bag or they'll sweat. You need quite a few for a good trip, but it's very nice... =)
