In UK I find elections are very formal affair without the sound and fury usually generated in other Countries. But in US the elections for the President is already started. Why is it so?

It actually started a year ago. Very tiring. But this is the country where the stores put out Christmas merchandise the week before Halloween and Valentine's Day merchandise the week before Christmas. Do they do that in the UK?
