Ann Wilson and Janis Joplin.

The late Karen Carpenter. God bless her. She might not have had the most powerful voice, but she had a voice that was so rich and mellow---a very pleasant sounding woman's voice---that I am willing to state that she had the best female voice, especially in pop music. Very unusual and unique. For the best voice manipulation and microphone technique, I like Teresa Teng from Taiwan. Asian singers are not well known in the West, but I think she had an unusually clear, sweet voice, and she handled the microphone like a precision instrument.

STEVIE NICKS IS MY FAVORITE SINGER EVER! that being said, she doesn't actually have a lot of range or clarity. She makes up for it with dynamics, but... In terms of power: Grace Slick Range: Mariah Carey (I don't really like her music, bu there's no denying that range!) Clarity: Joan Baez If I had to choose a voice that did well in all three categories, I guess I'd go with Loreena McKinnit or Sarah McLaughlin.

Shirley Bassey - Most Consistantly GREAT for 5+ Decades Ella Fitzgerald - This lady could sing anything! Ethel Merman (One of the Greats of Broadway) Celine Dion - Can get a HIT by singing the Phone Book! Linda Eder (Amazing POP Soprano Vocalist) Judy Garland (Lost Range and Clarity in later years) Lara Fabian (Less known, but an excellent POP Soprano) Liza Minnelli (Best Vocals during Early Years) Barbra Streisand (Less Powerful today, but still Great) Patsy Cline (Unfortunate to lose this lady so early) Mahalia Jackson (One of the Greatest, ever!) Dinah Washington Phyllis Hyman Connie Francis (Lost High Fidelity Voice Early-But still a Great Vocalist) Eydie Gorme (Less Known Artist - But a Powerhouse) Donna Summer (Soaring Voice) Jennifer Holiday (A Powerhouse Vocalist) Pat Benatar (One of the Best Rocker Vocalists) Linda Ronstadt (Can sing anything) KD Lang (A Great Vocalist) Martina McBride (One of the powerhouse Country Vocalists) Carrie Underwood (Just starting-Destined to be a Great)

How about Annie Lennox? Listen to 'Don't Let It Bring You Down' from her Medusa cd. Her voice is amazing.

I can't help myself. I have to agree that Stevie is the best. Especially after seeing her several times in concert. So besides my all-time favorite, I love Jenny Lewis from Rilo Kiley (an indie-rock band), Tina Turner, Dolly Parton, and Celine Dion. Just off the top of my head, but still, I couldn't hit the song the way any of those divas do!

Whitney Houston...in her prime.

I have to stick to saying that Natasha Bedingfield is the best I've heard in years, and possibly (for me) of all time.
