  • Without knowing all the laws of all the countries I reckon you can bet that it is not mandatory everywhere. There is a simple reason for this, not every place on the planet that has people has the resources, skills and/or knowledge to carry out the procedure. Often people are buried very quickly in countries where the infrastructure is less developed than it is in western countries.
  • its not MANDATORY anywhere
  • No. In many locations embalming is only required if the body will remain unburied or not cremated for a period of time. This is to prevent decay and transmission of disease to the living. Here is a site that explains why embalming became the law in many paarts of the U.S. We can thank the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln for this. Relatives of war dead wanted to see their loved ones but having them treansported from battle sites across the country left many relatives upset with he conditions of the remains and they sought a way to rremedy this. Today, you have "Green Funerals" available where enbalming is not done. There are certain green cemetaries that do not allow embalmed bodies to be buried in them as well. It is a growing trend Here is the link to the history: http://www.hamiltontn.gov/MedicalExaminer/ME%20Office%20FAQs.htm#Q15
