What's the best way to deal with someone who claims they are a genius even though the evidence suggests otherwise?

What evidence? Genius often (not always) evidences itself oddly - and often in imbalanced talents and skills. If he's taken an IQ test, a significant percentage of the population is classified as Genius, really. If you consider that they classify something like 1% of the population that way, it's only one person in a hundred - which is a LOT. Further, how are you treating them any differently than you would if they didn't claim genius? They're not really any different from anyone else.

Don't take them to seriously. lol Let them have their fantasy. I wouldn't let my ego be bothered by their inflated one.

Humour them, play the game, ask them philosophical questions :) and their opinion on intellectual topics. Let them think they are a genius, it is obviously the only think they think they have going

Hold your tongue, try not to think about them as it will cause you to go mad, and then laugh at them whenever possible.

Let them be a legend in their own mind.

leave them alone and let them embarrass himself in public. Why spend time arguing with him when your not going to convince him?

Let the evidence speak for itself. And log off of AB stat! Seriously, if you have decided that the self proclaimed genius is in fact an idiot, what else i there to do in terms of dealing with that person? Walk away, demonstrate that true genius is not built upon false claims :)

Just keep telling them that your favorite thing about them is how amazingly HUMBLE they are. ;)

Do a side by side comparison of your scores from one of those online IQ tests. One of you will have to bow to the crown.

Presumably you're annoyed with them, yes? Or you wouldn't bother asking the question probably. There's two kinds of answers: the helpful kind, and the FUN kind! :) The helpful kind are long and dreary, involving restraining yourself, seeing if there's a crack in their armor through which you can actually deliver a usable communication, etc. These are all good answers, and really we should adopt those approaches with boorish fools. But of course, if someone is truly overbearingly egotistical and annoying, it's tough to resist the urge to whip out the weapons. How about: "Does your head have it's own postal code?" (Pretend to answer a call, then...)"It's for you. It's God. He wants your advice on something" "You'll probably want a resume to match your ego. I know a wonderful fiction writer who's out of work..."

ok, turn his best poem in to some poem club on the net and then print out all of the awful remarks and give it to him in a poem you made your self!!

1)Suggest a night at a pub quiz/ a game of trivial pursuit/ some other non-threatening knowledge/ intelligence testing game. 2) Play in a non-commited sort fo way as if you don't really care or expect to win. When you get answers right look astonished and act like it was a complete fluke. 3) Enjoy watching the ever-increasing frustration on their face.

Give them a 5'th grade level test. Also ask them which word in my answer is a palendrom.
