Doll’s paper convinces the scientists. 1942 - Germany recognises combination of asbestosis and lung cancer as anoccupational disease that warranted compensation. -------- American Dr. Irving Selikoff first made the link between asbestos and fatal diseases in 1954. After tracking 18 asbestos workers for 15 years, Dr. Selikoff discovered that 12 of the 18 miners had died of asbestosis or cancer. Asbestos-related illnesses have been known since the beginning of time. Records show slaves who wove asbestos into clothing became ill and died from what was simply called "breathing sickness.
