What you need it horticulture books, not cook books. This is a link to many botanical names of plants: http://garden-gate.prairienet.org/botrts.htm it gives the definitions for the Latin terms used in botany. http://www.botany.com/index.12.htm lists many plants by their common name, once you locate the common name you will find the Latin name on the plants page. You will most likely have to do several searches, Pomegranate is not on that site, I checked under fruit and trees. I went to the winki and got the hit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomegranate Which gives the Latin name as: Punica granatum Going back to the Latin Names page: Punica= referring to Punica (Carthage/N.Afr.) Punica, the pome- granate, native to that area OR the color reddish-purple (puniceus) Tada!
