I used to chain smoke four packs a day and probably more if I went to a club . I gave up and have caught every cold and chest virus since. I am sure the nicotine kept the germs away. Though I would never recommend starting to smoke and loathe to see young people doing it.

I smoked heavily for years and years. I quit seven years ago and have not regretted it for a moment. I can breathe much easier now and that annoying cough finally went away.

I never smoked.... it goes against the principles of my convictions... so fortunately for me.. it wasn't something I was exposed to while growing up. My stupid brother who is 37 has picked up this nasty habit and when he can't find money for cigarettes, he will smoke pipe tobacco in a pipe he used for marijuana.

Believe it or not, I'm an "occasional" smoker. I keep cigarettes on the nightstand and have one every now and then. I don't ever carry them with me.

I quit back in August. I'm still struggling but I haven't gotten my yearly broncitis yet and I feel much better and food omg food tastes really good now!

I have no problem admitting I am an idiot in this instance. I smoke and claim that high stress levels make it impossible to quit (that's BS and yes, I know it). I've cut way back (2 packs to a half pack a day) and need to kick it now or decide that coughing up tar laden spit is a better choice. Plus, that smokey smell is oh so sexy (not). It irritates the heck out of a stomach condition I have. Obviously, compared to lung cancer this is no big deal. I don't think I am going to try for lung cancer though. . .yup, I have to quit and for once, I want to quit.

I smoke but have cut it down to about a half a pack a day and I only usually smoke half a cigarette. I laid them down for nine months once, and it was remarkably easy. I had moments of wanting one but it wasn't too bad. Then I had a time of extreme stress and was "trapped" in a car with a smoker and I caved. :-( I am working up to trying to quit again.

I stopped 17 years ago.The Best present I could have ever given myself and family.

I regret it....i always get sick...or catch colds more easily than others...it sucks....and it's a habit i hope to kick this coming year....ok i don't hope to...i WILL kick this habit this year.

I quit twice..the 2nd time was harder...but I have now been smoke-free for 20 years...However, I know that cigarettes are to me much like alcohol is to an alcoholic--I can never have just one.(thus quitting twice). I did have some problems coming off of the nicotine gum I used the second time..I sort of became addicted to it as well..but then I figured that taking in just one chemical wasn't as bad as a cigarette and I gave that up as well...Good luck on your quitting..it can be done..and believe me, you will feel 10000 times better.

I admit I smoke and it's a bad habit.

I quit about 10 years ago. My mother and maternal grandfather died of emphysema although they each lived past 80. My dad died from emphysema and heart problems, so I felt I was "pushing the envelope." The thing that disturbs me currently is, I heard on the radio that if one stops smoking they reduce their chances of lung cancer by 50 percent. 50 PERCENT!!?? I had always thought one's lungs rejuvenated after about 10 years. Guess not. Should have never started. Thought I was so much more sophisticated in college when I started. Still miss one occasionally. It had such a calming effect and I'm definitely Type A.
