  • Prince Edward Island is the smallest province with a population of just 135,851 people according to the 2006 census. The three territories are less populous but they don't have provincial status. (That's about 2,185 sq miles.) The next to smallest province is Nova Scotia in size, but Newfoundland and Labrador by population.
