I never noticed it before. But I have an unusual story about Gary Coleman.... I've met him. Or rather, I SAW him up close, more properly. I was working at Symantec in 2004 (the Norton Antivirus people). One day I was sitting in the lunchroom and some people came through buzzing about the fact that Gary Coleman was in the lobby! So, like any bored employee, I sauntered out to look, and sure enough... there he was, chatting it up with one of the security staff. I wondered what he was doing there, and later I learned through the grapevine: he had been visiting the offices of a TV production company located downstairs, and apparently things hadn't gone well in the meeting -- so they had decided not to validate his parking! Apparently he's not one to pay for something that can be had for free, so he rode up to the 2nd floor, walked into Symantec's lobby, and asked our receptionist for a validation sticker. Ever dutiful, the Symantec receptionist refused, citing the fact that he wasn't a legitimate guest of the company, and an argument ensued. Security was called, and negotiations proceeded (that's when I stuck my head into the room). Apparently this incident took about 20 minutes to resolve: the final deal was that Gary became a guest of one of the security guys, signed an autograph for him, and gained access to one of our premium parking validation stickers -- worth a whopping $7.50. It is said -- of course, I can't verify any of this -- that the receptionist made him sign the visitors log to get his sticker, and that he wasn't able to REACH that high... so the security guy fetched a stool for him. Can you say Ca$h Call? :)
