after you learn to play ,everybody will cover there ears i play the banjo and ive learned several songs and to play them well i go over and over each one my kids say it kills.them the wife says she dosent like the banjo i play seven other insturments allso they like all the others.

Learn your moveable chords first and then work on some finger picking tunes like Banjo in the Hollow and Foggy Mountain Breakdown. Then move back to your movable chords and learn some backup to go along with any fingerpicking you have learned. AND play WITH a real person who plays another instrument, or play WITH songs of people on a cd. That way you wont have to relearn your timing when you play with real people instead of just playing by yourself. As far as backup, most folks learn a lot of fingerpicking but then when they play with a few others to make some music, they dont know what to do when the fingerpicking isnt needed in the song, which is most of the song. Learn backup to every song you fingerpick.
