Music and talk is beamed up from a large central ground station to a satellite, which then beams it down to a small antenna in your car or near a window in your house, where it then goes into a radio which plays it.

Well the two most popular Satellite radio company's are XM and Sirus. XM has more users but hasn't been around very long. have owned both and I enjoy XM a bit more. Sirus has Howard Stern who I love but XM has more hockey talk and hockey games which I love more. XM is more cheaper as well and the tech support I find to be more superb. XM was developed as a Car Radio, but as of late you are seeing more and more homekits being sold and you can even buy a portable devide that looks like an mp3 players (which plays mp3's as well). If you are looking to hook it up to your car you will need to buy a car kit, and hook it up to your car which costs about 30 bucks for the first month (activation + first month fee). You then pay per month and have some pretty awesome radio at your finger tips.
