On the transfer case, facing the rear of the vehicle are two drain/fill plugs. I think they are squair drive and take a 1/2 drive. To check the fluid level, park on a level surface, remove the upper plug and see if the fluid level is up to the bottom the fill hole. A good rule is if you can put your little finger in the hole and touch fluid it is OK.
