  • It has an effect on the velocity
  • I forgot everything I ever knew, and put it behind me.
  • the metal in the barel will actually 'warp' to one side depending on the type of forging and machining. my competition rifle will start to shoot high and right after 10-12 rounds. but given time to cool point of impact returns to point of aim. If you let your gun get severely overheated and you continue to fire it it will damage the rifling and the barrel might not come back to it's original shape
  • the temperature of the barrel wil start to effect the path of the bullint making the gun inaccurate, the bullits do not seat in the barrel and start to loose the rifleing of the bullit, meaning that the barrel has expanded because of the heat and are rendered ineffective, making for the need for a quik change barrel. the main point to not over shooting your barrel is to not let them cool down to fast for the barrels expand and contract thats a given but if this happens the barrels loose their tempering and then they are fu%$ed, for a machine gun the best one to have is a maxim type that is water cooled you can shoot all day with them as long as you have water and ammo and a couple of barrels
