What is it? Common contraction for northeaster, a northeast wind often blowing at gale or storm speeds. Where/when do they occur? Also refers to a type of storm moving up the North American Atlantic coast which is first felt as a northeast wind and it moves northward. http://www.islandnet.com/~see/weather/general/wxgls_jn.htm

Living in MA. I am familiar with these storms. A Nor'easter occurs usually during Dec thru Apr. Two or three storm fronts converge at the same time over the North Eastern part of the U.S. The effects are usually felt starting in NJ and runs up the coast hitting all coastal states and including Canada.
