Ice cream first, so that you don't overfill the glass with soda. Otherwise, it can be messy. The ice cream will float to the top.

In a float the icecream goes first so it doesn't splash at you. Then the Rootbeer, Vernors, or Orange soda goes in. :)

Little bit of ice cream. Then pour some soda in. Poke it with your spoon and then add some more ice cream. Then fill it up to the top. Try it with Boylan's Red Birch Beer. It's great!

I love to put the ice cream first so that the soda foams up and I can slurp the foam off.

I do the ice cream first, only because I prefer more ice cream than soda
-
the soda... especially if root beer because root beer foam takes long enough to subside by itself... when it hits the ice cream you could be waiting almost three times as long for bubbles to retreat.
