According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, The Honda Accord is NOT the most commonly stolen vehicle in the US, but it is third on the list. According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB®), the nation’s motor vehicle thieves continue to favor imports over domestic brands as their target of opportunity. The NICB® has compiled a list of the 10 vehicles most frequently reported stolen in the U.S. in 2004. That top 10 includes: 1. 1995 Honda Civic 2. 1989 Toyota Camry 3. 1991 Honda Accord 4. 1994 Dodge Caravan 5. 1994 Chevrolet Full Size C/K 1500 Pickup 6. 1997 Ford F150 Series 7. 2003 Dodge Ram Pickup 8. 1990 Acura Integra 9. 1988 Toyota Pickup 10. 1991 Nissan Sentra http://www.statefarm.com/insuranc/auto/nicbcars/grndthft.htm "We cannot determine with absolute certainty the reason why thieves steal some vehicles over others, but we see trends in the data that provide interesting insight," said Carole Comstock, CCC's vice president of marketing and product management. "For instance, our data suggests some cars are stolen for the value of their parts, which may explain why we often see a 'clustering' effect with same make and model vehicles from sequential model years." http://autos.msn.com/advice/article.aspx?contentid=2891 ************************************************************** Thefts of older cars also may reflect growth in the so-called tuner market, where older, mainly Japanese-made cars are modified for road racing. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2005/most_stolen_cars.html

i'm not an expert but my accord has been stolen twice. Both times recovered w/ in a week at most, no major damages, either time. What a repair shop told me the first time it was recovered was that honda lock mechanisms can become "sloppy" and a thief might have a ring w/ a bunch of Honda key's and though one might not be an exact key match w/ some jiggling they can be made to work easily. So essentially older Honda's w/ old lock mechanisms are just easy to steal w/out making a scene even in a heavily populated area.
