  • When I ask my questions, I will do whatever I can to stay out of the Outside the Bag catagory. Doesn't always work though, as thirteen of my sixty-seven questions to date have been put in there or one of it's derivatives.
  • Very. You are much more likely to get a correct/meaningful answer if you post your question in the correct category. A lot of ABers who have expertise in things like cars, computer problems, et cetra watch those categories and they are very helpful. If you want to know what is wrong with your Lexus, it hardly makes sense to post the question in the About Answerbag category. By not attempting to place questions in the correct category people also create a ton of unnecessary work for the moderators. All those "wrong category" flags have to be reviewed after all. That takes away time they have to properly review things and then we all get mad when they are slow to accept/reject flags or they make honest mistakes. It's not hard to find the right category. Just use the search box and from there ask your question in the appropriate category. Simple.
  • That's why I roam there for misplaced questions, since so many are so lazy.
  • I always attempt to find the right category. i feel people can better answer my questions/help me if it's posted in the right category. One day i was going to ask a question and wasn't sure what category to post it is so I went to the search box and keyed in the word.. ie) Halloween.. those questions popped up, then while on that page. I hit ask a question.. then it posted correctly. I have seen adult AB questions in outside the bag for everyone to see and that defeats the purpose the Adult category (and kids see it too). Why should the moderators have to take of their time, which they have little of due to spam, racist crap, etc to have to change categories because people are too lazy to put it where it goes.
  • To me, this is a biggie. When I first arrived, I stuck to a few categories I went to for my own interest and comfort levels. Then I got brave and answered some questions that then took me to other parts of AB. That led to "discovery sessions" about all the gazillions of categories - sub categories - etc. That plays directly into putting yoru questions into the right category. You've got to know what exists. What's the OVERALL DESIGN of what's where? It's not Dewey Decimal or ISBN in form. LOL So it takes some work on the part of each user to see how the content areas have evolved over time. Have to admit I ran into a couple of clearly "wrong category" questions the other day and DIDN'T flag them. (Felt guilty about that) Only reason is I didn't know where to put them and you have to say where to move them. Working on that though .. investigating nooks and crannies to see what's where. :) Just yesterday, I asked a question ABOUT an existing category to get to know it better so I'd post the correct kinds of things in it .. or move other things TO it. However, no one answered! I'm asking if the category I "discovered" is a sort of catchall place for FACTUAL questions that have no other topical home, just as Outside the Bag does that for other types of questions .. opinion, entertainment, etc. Here it is .. http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/1029906 In many ways, the more users who put things in the right place, the less work for everyone to pick up litter and make it treasure again by getting it to the right sock drawer! lol I can't even imagine how moderators survive the amount of flags coming their way day in and day out. Short answer: VERY important Long answer: see above :)
