  • Do they look like igloos? I don't live in one, but it would be an interesting place to stay at!
  • I knew (ish) someone who did. Hot, hot airy homes.
  • I would NEVER live in a geodesic dome - never never ever. Fisrt - there is nowhere for anything, while it may have large amounts of square feet, nothing pushes up cleanly against a wall - stairs for example - take up much more floor space. Also - they leak. Every joint in the roof is an area where water can intrude - they leak terribly. Finally - it would be VERY difficult to sell - your real estate agent may have to look hundreds of miles away to find a comparable to determine the price. All in all, a nightmare for a homeowner in my opinion.
  • We live in a Cement Geodesic Dome home. The main dome is 3 stories and the garage dome is 2 stories. We have interior walls like any other house and it is very ecological and economical. We have windmills, solar water heaters... For more than 30 years we wanted to live in one. Our oldest son is a PHd in Physics designed the home. We love on the waterway in a southeastern town. Everyone hangs out at our house. We don't have a problem with leaks, we get offers for our home even in this economy. We are a little eccentric but we love durability and quality. (not to mention superior wall system basement with 54 inch think basement floor in center of basement and a neoporte front door...) Our house has appeared in newspapers and magazines (without our authorization) so we think there is an appeal. It is a natural shape that occurs through out nature. Our dome was designed to do well in Earthquakes, tornado, tsunami, fire, termites...Our home owners insurance is a great gauge of the integrity of this design. Everything we buy EX: diesel mercedes, lotus elise, BMW GS1200 Adventure, Nordic Tug...is for durability and value . I think as a owner of a geodesic dome I am qualified to say that it is a great, safe and healthy place to live.
