ASE stands for Automotive Service Excellence and is an organization that test auto techs on a volentarry basis to determine the level of experience the tech is capable of handling. I am an ASE master certified tech in all 8 automotive areas for almost 30 years. If you see the ASE info posted at a shop you can ask the management to show you the paperwork prooving the guy working on your car has passed some hard tests. For me it has been a pride thing and also keeps my pay scale at higher levels due to my ability to repair cars.
