I'm not really sure; let me know if you ever figure it out? :-)

Some people are desperate for attention, any attention.

That is a really good question. I've actually posted a question asking if people would downrate me just because I am asking to be downrated. I found that about only 10% of the responders actually downrated. What I learned from this social test is that people will downrate is a question is based on anger or something offensive, but most will not downrate (even if asked to) if the question is good natured. If people feel ill intent, they seem more likely to downrate. Personal observation.

I think what is nonsense to one person is not nonsense to others. I think some of the questions that have been marked as nonsense are good questions.

My "diet or regular?" question is still the one that brought me the most replies and to me it was utter nonsense so what for me was a nonsense question worked out to be a great question for the rest. Having seen this, I am sometimes forcing myself to come up with more nonsensical questions.

Alcohol , drugs , pure ignorance.

There's always that chance that the people who flag won't be online and it could stay on the board for a few days, I suppose. I generally look at it as a cry for attention from the asker.

Either is one nonsensical or not...

Yes I am guilty of this. It is fun not too be so serious all of the time.
