Not necessarily. Spasm of your chest muscles due to emotional stress or physical injury can cause sharp pain. Use your fingers to palpate your pain spot. Does the pain increase in intensity when you touch it, and does it decrease in intensity when you release your finger? Does the soreness decrease in intensity when you massage the sore spot with your fingers? If so, then the pain comes from the ribs or the chest muscle. If touching the pain spot does not seem to affect the pain either way, then your problem is more internal. You will need to see your doctor as soon as possible. It could be something serious such as cancer, aneurysm, or dissection of the aorta.
