  • Ammonia should NOT be present in urine. Your liver should filter out the Amine group in a complex cycle to leave you with the less harmful chemical, urea. This may suggest there are issues with your liver - see your sexy GP for an official diagnosis.
  • Perhaps you need to increase your fluid intake. You might have a slight kidney infection.
  • Yes it is, could be from medications your taking but like Pumby said your liver maybe having problems. Time to call you health care provider & go for a visit the sooner the better.
  • mine did too as a kid when I did it in bed, but it took a while for the smell to develop.
  • Not really......in fact the next time you feel like cleaning the kitchen floor..........Just pee on it.
  • No – we will just call you Mr. Clean.
  • You need to start drinking water.
  • Odour - Urine mostly has the odour of ammonia, due to the nitrogenous wastes present in the urine. Aromatic foods can also affect the odour (large amount of asparagus intake can cause a putrid odour during urination). Urine may smell like sweet or fruit in case of diabetes and large amount of ketone bodies excretion. Usually, adult urine is smellier than children's since adults take a higher protein diet. The bacteria present in the urine usually reduce nitrate to nitrite with the presence of ammonia in the urine. This gives it the smell. Normally, this bacterial action needs 4-5 hours to occur. So morning urine or concentrated and stagnated urine is smellier than normal, frequently passed, diluted urine. http://tinyurl.com/27wbst
  • You need to start drinking masive amounts of water and get to your Doctor for a urinalisis so they can check your liver and kidneys.
  • Mine was like that for a while and I went to the doc. I had a kidney infection. I had to drink a ton of water and take antibiotics. About 10 days later I was good again! Now I can pee on my hubby with confidence! lol j/k
  • I have a smiliar problem.. My urine has a very strong oder, I think it's ammonia, but it's worse maybe? I can't describe it. It happens more if I wait too long to pee or when I first wake up. It goes away when I drink some beer with friends or tons of water but if I don't it comes back and it smells BAD, really bad. I don't have any lower back pains, itching, or any other problem. It just the smell and sometimes it's a darker color then it should be (darker the more it smells.) I don't eat asparagus, or any foreign types of fruit or juices.. I don't really do anything, although.. I know this is bad it first started about 6 months ago when i smoked some drugs (meth :() with my sister (it was a one time thing) and it hasnt gone away since. I thought I was just dehydrated but I've done everything to the point where I think im gonna explode if I drink anymore and it's still there (But it does go away if my bladder fills up quickly and I pee.. but if I wait, its there.) if I wait to use the bathroom or wake up like I said... Any ideas? I don't have health care, and I can't afford to see a doctor.. Am I shit out of luck?
  • No, I live miles away!
  • Also I wanted to add, that I had some penicillin left over from a bladder infection I had about a year previous to this.. and it went away for a good week and came back, that's pretty much a sign of an infection isn't it?
  • This has happened to me and it's called kidney infection. If there's no internal pain id start drinking a hell of alot more water.
  • drink more water
  • if drinking more water doesn't help definately get your liver enzimes checked. i've had hep c for 25 years and whenever i get that odor my liver is acting up. time to change your diet to give your liver a break. liver cleanse might help. but see your doctor first and good luck.
  • maybe because i use massive amounts of cocaine and drink all that time...that's not good
  • Are you eating anything different, try keeping a food dairy. maybe a medication your taking. You maybe have issues with your liver not processing, so get to the doctor soon.
  • You may have a unine-tract infection. See your doctor.
  • mine is doing the same thing...the ammonia odor...i went to the doctor and had a urine test but it was fine. Maybe i'm not drinking enough water, but i'm sure going to start.
  • Does you kitty cat feel like, it's got a sun- burn when you pee? I'd say a bladder infection is present. Drink a lot of fluids. I know it burns when you go, but you've got to drink anyway. Women say if I don't drink it won't burn. This is the worst thing you can do. The longer the urine stays in there, the more pain. Also more bacteria. The bacteria will double every 20 mins. So you want to fight the burning get drinking. The bacteria is causing the inflamation.
