According to here http://www.nabiscoworld.com/Brands/ProductInformation.aspx?BrandKey=ritz&Site=1&Product=4400000028 Yes, they're peanut-free. But there could be traces; I'm not sure. When you're out at the store, look at the box and see if it says "may contain traces of peanuts" or something of that sort. But I'm pretty sure that it has no peanut particles in it.

I've never heard of Ritz crackers containing peanuts. Um, unless you accidentally got your cracker Skippy dipped, then it's peanut free.

It's not an ingredient but peanut containing products are made on the same machine so If you have a severe allergy it could cause a reaction. Prevent peanut allergy reactions http://www.peanutallergy.com/bracelets.html

I think most contributors have answered your question. I have a similar problem...being coeliac, I cant have wheat ,rye or barley. The labels have to be read very carefully, not all carry warning, yet and as as been pointed out the product need not necessarily have the ingredient in it but if machinery as been used for these or even if the ingredient is used in the factory the manufacturers will put this disclaimer on the label to cover their own backs. Good snacking...

It's a convention which includes the situation where the product is made on a line which also handles products that contain peanuts. When the line switches over it is cleaned, but traces will be passed on to the first few batches of the peanut free product. The warning can be interpreted as "most boxes are free of peanuts, but some individual packets WILL have peanuts traces."
