Jay Garrick could only run fast,very fast. Barry Allen had a much expanded bag of tricks, including the ability to vibrate his body in such a way as to pass through objects. Bart Allen isn't quite in West's league but close. All the Flashes could deliver flurries of punches, create wind vortices of varying strength, run fast enough to run on water, and run up vertical surfaces.

To expand on Canned ham's answer (http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/55062)there are other things that can be done with the speed force - for example, Wally West could tap the speed force to read incredibly fast, however, the knowledge would be forgotten very quickly. He could also tap the speed force into other objects - for example, he could theoretically, oh, say use the speed force on his kettle to make it boil faster.
