  • I've never heard of this no training for 6 months and I've had dogs for almost 50 years. I've known newfoundland puppies that got their water rescue titles at 9 months of age. All the puppies I've known were already very aware of simple commands just from being around their moms and the training continued right from the ay they went home at 8-12 weeks old. They learn from the very first who is pack leader. There are no positive or negative reinforcements, only consequences of actions. It's up to the dogs themselves whether they get positive or neg. Edit: So what did you disagree with? The teaching from early on or the no neg or positive reinforcement? Is it because you don't understand the concept of 'consequences? Have you seen the Cesar Milan on TV or read his books? Do you know the difference between consequence and punishment? A quick side snap of the leash to get attention focus is a consequence. A poke with the fingers in the neck is a consequence. Relaxation and walking forward is a consequence. Getting food is a consequence.
  • Positive reinforcement is most effective -- negative reinforcement in dog nature is usually a teeth baring growl -- not much more than that, quick and to the point. If by negative reinforcement you mean "punishment" -- that will never work -- it's not part of dog nature, they don't understand it so it achieves nothing, except to instill fear and confusion in the dog. It can also promote agressive behaviors.
