I think of "clever" and "intelligent" as being two separate things. I believe one can increase one's I.Q. over time by quite a few points...I don't know if one can learn to be more clever..that is like learning to be more witty, or funny..I think you either are you aren't! :)

you can become more inteligent but i'm not so sure about becoming more clever. i think, being clever has a lot to do with your personality e.g. your wit etc.

It would take practice, it just means to be quick, when useing your intelligence. Some people have a slow thought prosess, others have a very quick process. Reading helps a great deal with the thought process. That's why hind sight is 20/20! lol

You can and you are. I mean: you can make some progress with your cleverness or intelligence through exercise. But there are some limitations to what you can reach because of your genes. For instance, if you are a dog, you cannot probably reach the same level as a human, at least by human's standards.

This depends on what you mean by "intelligence", a word people bandy around as if they kew exactly what it meant, and then find they cannot define it when asked. The original theory of IQ tests was that there was some invariant IQ, independent of education, which you were born with and defined your capabilities. This has been fairly well debunked. But we can take a purely pragmatic measuse: you are clever if other people think you are. In which case you certainly increase your perceived cleverness. Firstly, like muscles, the mind gets stronger with being used; people who routinely solve problems get better at it. Secondly, more (relevant) knowledge will make you seem cleverer. And the two complement each other: knowledge provides raw material for the stronger brain.

I don't like labels. I think there is always room for growth and improvement. Genetic inheritance is a baseline, not a ceiling!

Use it or lose it. Most babies and toddlers actually have a higher IQ than later in life but they don't know what to do with it. So it's very relative. Just having the goods doesn't mean anything. What do you DO with it? That is something y9ou can change. And by learning to change that and becoming more than a smart baby, you are quite a clever person:-)
-
They say you are born with your IQ and can only change it by maybe 5 points. There are exercises for your brain to make you cleverer. Tricks to logic. Rules to deduction and induction, which can be learned. Folks that learn them early are thought to be clever.

When I was doing my teacher training a doddery (but wonderful) English lecturer told us all: "We are born with as much intelligence as we're ever going to have - everything after that is acquisition of knowledge." I usually believe him.
