My controller thinks I am pressing buttons that I am not really pushing. What could be wrong?

I am having the same problem. Sorry this isn't much of an answer, but I thought I'd add my two cents rather than start a new thread with the same question. My controllers have not worked (either one I got with the system in either controller port) since a while ago when I used to play Guitar Hero on it. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, but it seems like it isn't a coincidence. Either way, the problem I'm having is that the controllers don't respond to anything anymore, and the system always thinks I'm holding the D-pad right button. Also, it seems important to note that my DVD remote allows me to control the system just fine; all of the buttons work, and it doesn't act screwey. Anybody know what's up? I think it's a controller port problem, not a controller problem...

It wouldent be a controller port issue per se, but more of a motherboard problem. what version ps2 do you have?
