  • There... I gave you three points for the question. However, points have nothing to do with "fairness," they're just about the "popularity" of your answers.
  • I'm a bit stunned that a lvl 40 Brain is asking this question... are you a perfectionist? Not every answer (for any AB'er) is going to get points. Some may even get negative (who'd have thought?!?!) So I would be more inclined to say be thankful for those answers of yours that *have* received points... it shows that many on this site *do* appreciate your submissions.
  • Not everyone can give points to every good answer on the board. Some questions have too many answers to read through every single one, and despite how good or bad yours is...it sometimes gets lost in the shuffle. Honestly, some of my best answers have never been pointed, and I don't really mind. I know that I've given a good answer, and that's all that counts. Just because I didn't get points for it, doesn't mean I didn't help someone out.
  • Points are about as fair as anything else in life. And "good" is in the eye of the beholder. I always get the most satisfaction when I give answers where points are the last thing on my mind;)
  • seems a lot of people are not giving points to the answers they are getting to the questions they ask... seems they like to take without giving anything back and thats not the AB way .... I often give points to good answers of others peoples questions because I think good advise should be rewarded
  • I think it also depends on who sees your answer. Some people might not agree with your answer, so don't rate you, others do, so they do rate you. But ether way, not everyone is going to get points.
  • I think the points are fun , though I do know what you mean -- Some people never even go back to their questions and even acknowledge the answers their given + 5
  • Try not to think of the points. They're only points.
  • Their only pts, I have no doubt I have at least 400 answers with no pts. Don't bother with the points, bother with a credible answer and the points will come.
  • 1) This is what I got: - 53 / 245 questions with negative or zero points, 1951 points for my questions, makes 7.96 pts/Q - 2410 / 5420 answers with negative or zero points, 18703 points for my answers, makes 3.45 pts/A If I were only looking for points, I would ask more questions and give less answers. But that's me... 2) Most questions get an answer (whether the asker is satisfied with the answer is here irrelevant). And many askers give points to an interesting question. 3) For answer ratings, I observe the following trends: Many people rate answers to other people's questions quite rarely, and give them various rating. As to answers to their own questions: - some people give nearly always maximal points (thinking other people's rating will make the difference) - some people give here also various ratings Moreover some people give negative ratings, others don't. As there are no obligations here, various behaviors can be observed, and are justified. However, there is a strong movement against negative points. 3) As an answerer, I am grateful for aknowledgements of my efforts in the form of points and/or comments. But I can also understand it if the asker don't give them, for various reasons.
  • I agree about points being goofy, but a comment is worth much more than -6 points or +6.
