Did Mozart have a favourite piece that he composed? Which was his favourite instrument?

    I remember reading that Mozart like the clarinet. Sorry, but I don't know what piece of his he liked the best.

    he was rather good on the harmonica and several of his fantastic harmonica variations have been recorded over the years Professor Widus Afterbeanz of the Cologne Institute is the curator of the first two dozen scores written by the youthful Mozart, his father Leopold rather discouraged young Wolfgang from [as he called it] these fripparies] and so Wolfgang concentrated more on conventional composing, but as scholars now generally agree his first love was of course the harmonica.

    In the letter to his father of April 10, 1784, Mozart refers to his quintet for piano, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon in E flat major, K. 452, completed on March 30, 1784, as "the best work I have ever composed." Later, Beethoven considered it worthwhile to try his hand at composing a similar piece for the same combination of instruments in the same key (Opus 16). The source for this answer is Alfred Einstein's book, "Mozart - His Character; His Work," near the end of the chapter, "Chamber Music Including Clavier." As for his favourite instrument, Mozart seems to have loved playing the viola at occasions where string quartets were played. In his "Skittles Trio" for piano, viola and clarinet in E flat major, K. 498, he wrote the viola part for himself to play. Of course, he came to love the clarinet, too, and as for the piano, Mozart could certainly be called "the father of the piano concerto" in an approximately similar sense as Haydn has been called "the father of the symphony."
