  • because the air doesn't get "cleaned" the same way as when you breathe through the nose.
  • It can cause halitosis. Particles accumulate in the mouth and some of these can become allergens.
  • G'day Naren V, Thank you for your question. It is generally because it can result in getting food and water in your respiratory system where it shouldn't be. It can also result in snoring and sleep apnea. The nose also conditions the air for the body. However, everybody breathes through their mouth but the nose should be the primary method of breathing. I have attached sources for your reference. • It can dehydrate you, cause halitosis and your inhalation isn't filtered by those little hairs in your schnoze. As a diver that spends most of his working day breathing through that hole he also talk with, I can attest to the above.
  • You should be breathing through your mouth if you have a respiratory disorder so you can take in a deeper tidal volume, also should be doing breath holds 2-3 seconds to help keep the lower airways from collapsing and to promote more gas diffusion. the function of the upper airway which includes the nose is to warm and humidify air, create resonance for sound and to filter out particulates. But you should breathe thru the nose as much as possible.
  • Well, you never know when a nuclear cloud might be floating by.
  • Let us talk it simple, based on my own basic understanding of the things.(I may be wrong,& would like to be corrected, bcoz I simplify the things for my own understanding) 1)Lungs needs an atmoshere, like a tropical forest, warm & humid, a gland in nostrils do that.(ever wondered in hospitals one water filled attachment through which oxygen comes to patient. 2)Tonsils should not be bypassed(gets partially bypassed).Air comes in contact with air you breathe in,if there is bacteria, microbes, germs & your body has developed immunity to that, tonsils send s the signal in advance to brain to fight it out. 3)Nostrils hair acts as filter
  • You should breathe through your nose as opposed to your mouth because the the nostrils and sinuses filter and warm the air going into the lungs. The mouth breather bypasses this. Mouth breathing also speeds up water loss increasing possible dehydration. http://www.righthealth.com/Health/Mouth_Breathing/-od-definition_wiki_Mouth_breathing-s
  • I only have one nostril that works therefore I breath through the mouth
  • You might swallow a fly, and perhaps you'll die!
