  • Does it happen all the time? Does the speed drop at all, or just the tach? Have you changed anything or had any work done on it recently? Year, model, trim, kms, engine, transmission info plz...
  • I don't think you can have repeated momentary engine seizures. They usually begin with a loss of oil pressure and end the life of the engine. It would also have felt more like hard brakeing. It the tach really plummeted straight to zero I suspect you are having an intermittent electrical problem, zeroing the tach and the engine is cutting out. If this were an early 70's muscle car for example, it could be the tach wiring shorting out the dwell from the breaker point ignition. Later vehicles have more complex wiring, you may need to notice more about what happens and what doesn't in order to isolate it. It if has OBD it should have left a code in memory. Many auto parts stores will plug in and read it for you for free. If it didn't drop all the way to zero, and it drooped during a prolonged misfire, then it could be also be fuel but fuel issues usually include milder misfires and jerks and don't appear and disappear immediately and totally... so I'd still look for something electrical.
