They are only a threat to an already failing system. They are being used now as an excuse for failure, to justify failure. The illegal immigrant issue is a clever distraction from Iraq and new threats to Iran . It's a disaster waiting to happen that could end up costing the US in excess of a trillion dollars. Don't blame illegal immigrants for costing the US their health care. Blame the current right wing racist administration for that one! The same administration that caused many insecure Americans to buy into the fear mode and agree to an illegal war where atrocities have become commonplace. My opinion only.

Alatea, our government is definitely not perfect and needs a lot of improvements, however you are giving a biased answer. The percentage of immigrants (that are screened before entering the U.S.) found to have TB, Chagas, Leprosy and other diseases is very high. Imagine how many illegal immigrants, that we didn't have a chance to give a health screen, are already residing in the U.S. This doesn't mean that our current immigration laws are RIGHT, in my opinion they absolutely need to be changed, but in answer to your specific question, they are a health threat. And I think that's the only argument people opposed to immigration really have going for them. How do we protect our citizens from diseases?

... and people in the United States are a health threat to immigrants. They get exposed to different intestinal flora and fauna than in their home countries, so they get sick like we do when we leave the country. The virus mix is different, and some come from climates where it is/was rare to have a seasonal influenza peak. The connectedness of the world is a chief reason that infuenza epidemics now take months and sometimes just weeks to spread throughout the world, where it used to take two seasons or more and some strains remained isolated. Whether the danger is very real or media-hyped, it is a risk we take in exchange for making the world small. A connected world is a more prosperous world.

No way. It is a distraction to get you away from thinking about the real problems facing the people of the United States that keep searching for LIBERTY and JUSTICE for ALL.
