  • In this one case, that's true -- someone else in the mall would have shot him. But in general, the presence of lots of arms is likely to lead to more overall gun shootings. It's true that "guns don't shoot people, people shoot people"... but it's also true that people with guns shoot people. Not always, not even most of the time, but with a high population of guns the odds go up quite a bit. In the U.K., there just are not a lot of guns, and there aren't many gun deaths. A shooting death is big news... here, it often fails to make the front page because it's so common. In the U.S., there's a strong cultural bias in favor of gun ownership, so it's unlikely that this will change any time soon. But that's no reason to fall into faulty logic or dubious rationalizations -- keeping a clear head on the topic is still useful.
  • When I was in college I did a report on how when every one is armed crime goes down. In Texas we have a right to carry concealed weapons as long as we have a permit
  • I think this is a very hard decision to make. I would not want the freedom of arms to be taken away..however with all the violence in today's society I am not sure it would be a good thing for everyone to be carrying guns.
  • I agree 100%.
  • I think that's insane. You want a crowd of customers shooting at each other? I think a lot more people would have died. Unlike the movies, 99% of people can't pick off a bad guy with one shot, and are much more likely to get themselves killed or accidentally kill someone else.
  • There was something mentioned in a news report about $47,000. being spent for security at that mall but none of it was spent on guns; none of the guards were armed. If one had been, they may have been able to stop him. As it stands, whatever they spent the money on didn't help in this situation, except they have some pictures from survellience to sell to the media. Sure makes me feel safe!
  • I agree. EDIT: point of clarification. The decision ot carry or not carry a gun is a personal one and should not be made lightly. Those of us who choose to do so should respect the choice of others who choose not to.
  • Thats a lot of nra brainwashing malarky thats what we need 'old west style' shootouts. most people should not even venture outside amongst people let alone carry a gun to save me or you.
  • I think it is true that a well armed citizenry would probably make a big difference in situations like these.. It was an off duty officer I believe who helped to take the shooter down in the mall shooting in my city (Salt Lake) about a year ago.. As long as people abide by the gun laws of their states...
  • I disagree, that's illogical thinking. We are not living in the old west where it is a shoot em up gun fight. We need to get away from that violent thinking and get rid of guns,or at least make it a law not to carry guns.Carrying guns makes us the judge and executioner .The police and justice system takes car of these things. I would feel a lot safer if no one was carrying guns and the mall shooting does not warrant an armed to the teeth society.
