Well the Church wanted the Pagans to turn Christian so they tried to innertwine Yule And Christmas(the birth) they ended up starting the Christmas tree and gift giving.

not really... you have to plant two new trees for every one tree you cut down so SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT - DON'T GET AN ARTIFICIAL TREE.

Well, for the most part the trees come from tree farms so it is good for the economy. They use evergreen b/c the tips always poitn up to heaven.

Not as odd as the celebration of Thanksgiving. Which, to me, is a celebration of the slaughter of Native Americans and the theft of their land.

The tree thing is really a pagan ritual, celebrating the life that withstands the winter. It was imported from Germany in the mid-nineteenth century. The Norse variants of paganism had a lot to say about trees.
