No, it is a republic. A democracy is a system of government in which every citizen has a direct vote in what goes on. Easy to do in small city-states, impossible in most countries. Citizens of a republic vote for individuals who represent them in the government. In the US, we elect Congressmen and Senators to conduct national business on our behalf since it is nigh well impossible for all 240 million of us to go down to DC, attend the discussions, and vote on each law that is proposed.
