AVGPro has a 2 yr subscription. If yours is a personal ver ( I assume it is) you will need to fork over the money to get the updates. It will continue to work, just against threats identified in your last update is all. Here is the link http://www.grisoft.com/doc/LicenseModel/lng/us/tpl/tpl01 I stand corrected on the AVG FREE. It does auto d/l the virus definitions. It is NOT listed on the AVG website, but on it's own FreeAVG one.I did some side by side comparisons with other popular av software and found the Free AVG to be what you pay for. From what I've read, it was originally developed for the Linux community and ported to windows, so it was or still is open source.(Hence free). According to the website, you can continue to recieve updates until they no longer support the product. You learn something new everyday, I was only aware of AVG and it's associated trial and OEM's. Looks ok for a basic no frills, no support av. Personally, I like a little more options and control.

If you downloaded the free version you will not have to pay. Until they change their policy about the free version - and that hasn't happened yet (4 years and counting for me). Update: Let me be perfectly clear - I have never paid to use AVG. There are 3 versions of this product (at last look). Get the free one!

This is to scubabob. Thanks for correcting yourself on the AVG FREE version. What is audo d/l? I didn't know Free AVG had it's own website. Could you share the site so I can read about the free AVG thanks. You said you did some side by side comparisons with other popular av software and found the Free AVG to be what you pay for. What do you mean pay for? If AVG is free than why do you pay for it.

This is to Karl Plesz I am glad to know someone has had the free AVG version for more than 2 years. I am glad you have never had to pay anything to use AVG. I didn't know AVG had three versions. I only knew about AVG Free and AVG anti virus. Are you saying you are still able to get all the updates that the free AVG gives you when you first get the program. If so that is good if it will continue past a year.

the newest version of AVG is 8.0 http://free.grisoft.com /ww.download?prd=afe and will automatically update 7.5 version when its installed and its FREE I've been using AVG free for 3yrs and yes they update just fine, the main difference between pro-paid pro comes with tech support, firewall, instant messengering protection, screens your down loads, anti-spam Free-virus protection, spyware protection, e-mail scanning, link scan, resident shield, automatic update, and lets you set the time for when you wish it to scan.

I have never had to pay for AVG as long as you get the free version. The only thing I have had to do so far is to ungrade to the newest version but other than that I have had to do nothing else to keep getting updates.
