Why is it that pilots of rotary wing aircraft fly from the right hand seat and pilots of fixed wing aircraft fly from the left hand seat?

I believe Sikorsky (the guy, not the aircraft) made the change because it is difficult to see around/through the collective / cyclic control when you're looking down at the ground over your left arm on the collective and keeping your right arm steady on the joystick / control column between your legs. It is also easier for a pilot to enter the cockpit without the collective in the way.
