What causes water to flow heavily back into the overflow when you shut the car off?

the car is obviously overheating. does your temp gauge go above 200? typically this is a sign your thermostat is stuck closed so replace it. they are only a couple of bucks and easy to change. make sure you get the air out of the coolant system. your belt tension could be too loose and not driving the water pump enough also. if it has a clutch fan it could be bad also. if it is an electric fan, make sure it actually runs.
