If you write poetry, do you write it for private reading or for public reading, or both? Why?

Geez it's for private reading only! I'm not really the poetic type but I do have my moments =) However, I'm afraid to show them to someone else because people might find them corny or something. But I write nonetheless to express my feelings.

I'll steal the words of one of my favourite poets, RS Thomas. He said: "You write a poem for yourself initially. And if anyone wants to get involved, well, there you go..."

I used to share what I wrote with only a select few of my close friends/family, now it's just between me and my hubby. Just because I got negative reactions from people and I didn't feel they appreciated it for what it was.
