Can i plug a 5volt sata laptop drive into a normal sata power connector inside my tower to allow me to transfer data or do i need a 5volt to 12volt convertor?

    All desktop power supplies provide both 12v and 5v power to hard drives. No adapter needed.

    Yes you can, It will be the same. I work for a large company and do this all the time for data. No need for a convertor as long as you have SATA in your desktop. also make sure it is the slave or CS.
